GMMAZ NEWS //
  • On Top Of The World 08/09 has now ended, with over 80 young people having taken part in music projects across Greater Manchester, either as a first experience with music making, or returning to work with us from being involved with previous GMMAZ projects or their own groups. All groups in Tameside, Bolton, North Manchester and Wythenshawe have either performed their songs live, or recorded them in professional recording studios, or both, and have had a great time doing so. Looking forward to OTOTW 09/10!
  • Beyond the Mainstream will be taking place at the Starting Point Pru in Bolton every Wednesday up until the 20th July.

  • PANDA, GMMAZ, Music Leader North West and Substance join together to deliver a new and exciting Cultural Leadership Programme.  The Leadership Lab is the first Cultural Leadership Partnership in the North West. The funding has been given as part of the second round of the CLP’s Meeting the Challenge: Development Programme, a groundbreaking initiative launched in 2008 to improve leadership in the UK’s cultural sector, which generates an estimated £56 billion for the economy.
  • “Tips, Tricks & Tasters” – The North West Music Service INSET Conference 2009  will be held on the 4th September, at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool. 18 of the Music Services in the North West are to hold one of the largest teacher training conferences in the UK this year. Keynotes include Sir John Jones and Dave Price. The aim of the conference will be to inspire those attending, as well giving them practical knowledge to take away and use in their own practice. In keeping with this, all activities will fit in with the main theme of “Tips, Tricks and Tasters”, with workshops being facilitated by some real leaders in their fields, from Diane Baxter of the Musicians Union to Abigail D’Amore of Musical Futures…
  • MusicLeader Information Day - MusicLeader is hosting an information day on the 17th June between 1.00pm and 4.00pm at the MusicLeader Offices in Manchester.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Andrea Ahimie-Carthy on either 0161 236 0364 or north-west@musicleader.net.  Please note: this event is FREE and will operate on a first come first served basis.

London Calling UK’s Musical Youth!

Youth Music gives under 19s the opportunity to perform at Underage Festival in Victoria Park

Submission Deadline: Monday 15th June 2009
Performance: Sunday 2nd August 2009

Youth Music is ten this year and as part of the birthday festivities, the UK’s largest children’s music charity is celebrating the power of music to improve the lives of young people with its very own ‘Music Is Power’ stage at the Underage Festival – the world’s largest and best loved festival strictly for under 19s.

Youth Music’s Underage campaign launches on 1st April 2009. Young musicians in any genre can sign up on the interactive microsite www.youthmusic.org.uk/underage and the four best acts will be selected to play alongside established artists such as Ladyhawke, Tommy Sparks, Kissy Sellout and many more, in what is already promising to be the best ever festival exclusively for young people. The young artists will get to hang out backstage with the pro bands and participate in a festival film for the Youth Music website.

To enter, musicians will upload their video or audio demos and be asked to tell us how they would use the power of music to make a difference in their area. Youth Music will then offer the bands guidance on how to make that difference for other young people in their communities. Entrants and registered users will be able watch, comment on and rate all entries.

The deadline for submissions is 15th June 2009 after which, the demos will be judged and short-listed acts will be invited to attend one of three regional auditions (London, Bristol and Manchester). The judging panel will consist of high profile industry experts from the BBC and NME along with underage A&Rs.

Tom Baker from Underage Festival says "We are very pleased that Youth Music will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary by hosting an exciting line up of new and established bands at the Underage Festival.

Youth Music is a great platform for young musicians to find and develop their talents, something we at the Underage Festival are very happy to be involved with. We hope we can build on this relationship for future years."
